she was beautiful once,
her body flowed on the arc
of an apostrophe into the shape
of a swan
bejeweled
encumbered with bears
licensed to commingle her genes
while her eyes spread as wide
as her embrace
now she lies
with cats
pennies on her eyes
and roses that mimic each life
from seed to fallen petals
the second stanza falls open and begs me to ask, where on earth does this poem come from?

I was planning to ask much the same question.
ReplyDeleteFor all that, the first stanza is fabulous - and the rest not far behind.
I'm not sure about the second stanza, but the other two, taken by themselves - close to masterpiece!
i read this again this morning and i read, geeses, instead of genes. this makes me laugh))
